You are good at staying alive.
We are not alone, but are rather all part of an ecosystem on a micro and macro level. Everyone needs support sometimes. Using the tools at my disposal, I work to support the person and systems in front of me. I am trained in Visceral Manipulation (Barral Institute,) Massage Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing. I pull a large amount of inspiration and orientation through Improv games specifically in the school of Viola Spolin.
I know that focused attention is a powerful tool. I work in service to intuition that does not belong to me or anyone as an individual, but is rather pulled from pure awareness and acceptance of the present moment.
What does "somatic therapy" mean?
We are focusing on the present, and the self within the present without judgment or shame. What comes up when we slow down, and let our awareness just exist? What happens when we notice and accept our felt, physical and emotional experience? A through-line in all the work I do is that the attention is the therapeutic intervention.
I have experience and training in Somatic Experiencing, and trauma-informed bodywork. I am not a talk therapist. As a Wisconsin State credentialed Licensed Massage Therapist, the main tool I use in my practice is touch. Touch is our first language as human beings. It can be vigorous, violent, jarring, soothing, calming, and a thousand other things. Touch is a tremendous tool of communication and nervous system resonance.
I consider my work to be the facilitation of your own self-regulation. I am honored to function as a support, but I am not a healer - I cannot solve any of your problems. I deeply believe in your own ability to do so, with the right help and collaboration.
I do not occlude the physical self and tangible body when working on regulation. Physical, felt pain is there for a reason and worthy of our attention. I am a student of human anatomy and am constantly in awe of the cohesion of the physical form.
Issues I have worked with clients on include:
Chronic pain
Headaches
Vertigo
TMJ and Jaw issues (can include intraoral work)
Back pain
Digestive issues
Post-surgical massage
Grief and loss
Stress, anxiety, and panic
Boundary issues
